Parent Coaching & Family Therapy · North York & Oakville

When your child is struggling, they turn to you. So do we.

Children do not come with a manual. And even if they did, every child would need a different one. Parent coaching at Whole Kids Health is about finding what works for your child, your family, and your life right now. We work with parents in North York, Oakville, and across Ontario.

Why parent work matters

You are the most powerful force in your child's life.

Parents are in the hard moments. The 7pm meltdown, the school refusal morning, the conversation you don't know how to start. No clinician is there for those. You are.

Supporting you is one of the most direct ways we can reach your child. You don't need to be a perfect parent. You need to feel equipped, understood, and like you have someone in your corner.

No shame. No blame. No manual.

Walk into any bookstore and you'll find ten books on parenting an anxious child that tell you ten different things. They're not all wrong. They're just not all written about your child. What we do here is take what the evidence says works and figure out what that looks like for your family specifically.

Parenting younger children

When the hard moments happen many times a day.

With younger children, parents carry a lot. You are the decision-maker, the regulator, and the safe place all at once. When behaviour is challenging or connection feels hard, it can be exhausting and confusing in equal measure.

We help you understand what is driving what you are seeing, and find approaches that are sustainable for your family, not just strategies that work once.

Routines and limit setting
Building structure that actually holds, for your child and for you.
Tantrums and big behaviour
Understanding what's underneath and how to respond in the moment.
Connecting with your child
When things feel stuck or you're not sure how to reach them.
Highly sensitive children
Deep feelers, big reactions, and children whose emotions fill the whole room.
Developmental milestones
Questions about what's typical and what might need closer attention.
Supporting mental health challenges
Parenting a child experiencing anxiety, ADHD, or other challenges.

Parenting teenagers

The relationship doesn't disappear in the teenage years. It changes shape.

You're often left wondering what's going on. The conversations are less open. They have more autonomy. Friends become the centre of their world while parents fade a little into the background. That shift is normal. It's also genuinely hard.

We help parents understand what's happening developmentally, how to approach the conversations that feel impossible, and how to stay connected even when connection looks different than it used to. And sometimes it's the opposite: a teen who should be pulling away but isn't. We support that too.

Communication and connection
Staying close when they're pulling away, without pushing them further.
Technology and social media
Phone use, online relationships, and finding balance that works.
School and academic pressure
When achievement becomes the whole story, or when a teen is struggling to keep up and won't let you in.
When your teen is struggling emotionally
Low mood, anxiety, withdrawal. Not every hard stretch is a crisis. But all of them deserve support.
When concerning things happen
Withdrawal, self-harm, suicidality, and knowing how to respond without making things worse.
Supporting independence
When a teen needs to grow into autonomy, or when they're not quite ready to.

Family therapy

When the whole family needs to be in the room.

Sometimes what needs support isn't one person. It's the relationships between people. Family therapy is a different kind of work. Everyone comes into the room. The client is the family itself.

We work with families navigating tension, disconnection, a child's diagnosis, grief, and major life transitions. Families rebuilding connection after distance has grown. Parents and children finding their way back to each other. Whatever has shifted in the family system, we help you find what is still there and build from it.

Evidence-based approaches

The programs we draw on.

Our clinicians are trained in a range of evidence-based parenting programs. The right approach depends on your child, your family, and what you're working through.
